A new play area has opened following major renovation works as the makeover of a park continues.

The kids’ park opened at Trowbridge’s Studley Green is due to open this week, as work to transform leisure facilities in the area continue.

The milestone comes after more than a year of planning and designing, carried out in collaboration between Trowbridge Town Council, Studley Green Primary School and Studley Green residents.

Rachel Wheeler, project lead at Community Conversations with Wiltshire Council has been spearheading the project and working with the local community.

She said it was “so exciting” to be at this stage in the process.

She said: “It’s incredible. It’s taken so long with land agreements, park ownership, getting the correct equipment, because we wanted to make sure we had as many people as possible.

“It’s been a proper community venture to do it. The park that’s open now is accessible, inclusive, disabled friendly. It’s got wheelchair-friendly ramps, slides, swings.”

Construction on the second park, designed for older children and including adult exercise equipment, commenced on Monday, December 1.

Ms Wheeler explained that over the past year, residents had identified a strong need for new parks and recreational areas. She added that the project represents a significant step forward for Studley Green, and highlights the positive impact of community-led initiatives.

Asked what the response to the new park had been, Ms Wheeler said people of all ages had fed back with their enthusiasm.

She said: “They’re just so excited to get in there, and the parents are really happy their kids are getting their voices heard. It’s taken a lot longer to come to fruition. This has been going at least 18 months planning, designing and working.”

“We’re hoping to improve the quality of life for everyone in the area, and that is being led by the residents.”

The project is part of a broader plan to transform the park through community engagement.

As previously reported, work on a BMX track at Studley Green took place in February of this year.

The track, also located in Studley Green, off Lambrok Road, had fallen into a state of disrepair, but was resurfaced.
