Drivers have been warned they face delays on a main road through a Wiltshire town following a gas leak.

The leak, on Frome Road in Bradford on Avon, has sparked urgent roadworks that include the installation of temporary two-way traffic lights on the busy route.

These signals were put in place on Friday, January 2, and are expected to remain in place until Tuesday, January 6.

They are located at the junction with Barton Close, near the railway station.

Wiltshire Council hopes the necessary works could be completed before this date but has warned residents and those travelling through the town to expect traffic disruption in the meantime.

At around 9.30am on Saturday, January 3, there were some queues in both directions at the traffic lights.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Please be aware that due to a gas leak, temporary two-way signals are in place on Frome Road in Bradford on Avon.

“The works are expected to last until January 6 but may be completed sooner.

“Please allow extra time for your journey as delays are expected.”
