A phone shop has closed down in another blow to a Wiltshire shopping centre.

Classic Fone, which had been based in Castle Place shopping centre in Trowbridge, has shut its doors.

Photos of the site taken on Monday, January 5 show the business’ branding still on the front of the site, but with the shelves empty and no sign of activity inside the premises.

This paper has attempted to contact the business but has not managed to speak to anyone. It has also contacted management at the shopping centre, but has not received a response at the time of writing.

Castle Place has seen a number of major changes over the past 12 months, with several businesses saying goodbye to the site.

In May 2025, Opus Hair left the shopping centre as owner Ian decided to terminate the remainder of his lease as he neared retirement age.

Paul McKinley, Trowbridge’s most prominent butcher, left the shopping centre in the summer and took up a business space on Castle Street.

Mr McKinley’s move came ahead of the announcement that the marketplace on the lower floor would be closing and all remaining businesses would have to leave.

In September 2024, Wiltshire Council revealed it was proposing a deal to transfer the multi-storey car park, which is connected to the shopping centre, to the owner of Castle Place, Mr Tahir Ali.

It later came to light that Mr Ali was planning on redeveloping the site. On January 7, 2026, the full council voted narrowly against approving to provide the money to facilitate the deal.
