Plans to build 2,500 homes on the edge of the county have taken another step forward as the developers filed further documents with the council.
Last summer, Wiltshire Council granted outline permission for the Ashton Park development to the southeast of Trowbridge, a major development that would see green fields the eastern side of the town transformed into streets and residences.
Persimmon, the company behind the project, previously told this paper they intended to open the first sales outlets on the site later in 2026.
While it is still in the planning stages, it continues to roll on as the developer seeks permissions on more detailed plans that will allow it to begin work on the site.
On January 21, the firm filed an application for reserved matters for further ecology mitigation on the site pertaining to an initial mitigation strategy filed with the council. The application includes a landscape and ecological management plan for the area.
The developers applied for phase one of the development in September last year, meaning the council is currently considering plans for 350 homes. A decision was expected in December last year, but has not yet been issued by the council.
At the end of November, Persimmon applied for permission to build an ecology centre on the site, fulfilling one of 36 conditions placed on joint developers Barratt David Wilson Homes and Persimmon before Wiltshire Council granted planning permission for the whole development.
In a statement shared with this paper last year in December 2025, a Persimmon spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to confirm the first detailed planning applications for Ashton Park have been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

“Our intention is to begin work on site in the New Year, with the first sales outlets expected to open later in 2026.
“We will continue to work closely with Wiltshire Council to progress the scheme and look forward to delivering high-quality new homes and amenities for local people at Ashton Park.”
Persimmon was approached for comment on this story, but said they had nothing to add to its previous remarks.
As previously reported, the development is to be built in four phases, with phase one - the part closest to Trowbridge - consisting of 350 homes; 375 in phase two; 725 in phase 3; and 750 in phase four. The developers have said 26 per cent of the homes - 650 in total - will be designated as affordable housing.
The developers – Ashton Park Trowbridge Ltd & Persimmon Homes Ltd - are paying over £25 million to provide vital services including early years provision and schools (£14 million), bus routes - one bus an hour after occupation of the 51st home, and one every 30 minutes after completion of the 401st (£1.1 million) - and health care and NHS dental provision (£3.4 million).
They are also paying for a new £35.5 million relief road, which will see the A350 diverted away from the village of West Ashton and closer to the new houses.
