A summer charity hike is inviting walkers to step out in support of children’s hospice care.

The Great Wiltshire Walk returns on Saturday, July 11, to raise funds for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, with participants able to take on either a half-marathon (13.1 miles) or full marathon (26.2 miles) route through scenic countryside.

The routes will finish at the Avebury Stone Circle, one of the largest prehistoric stone circles in the world.

Alice Chalmers, fundraising manager at Julia’s House, said: "The Great Wiltshire Walk is a really special event because it brings people together to enjoy the incredible Wiltshire countryside while doing something truly meaningful for local families.

"Every step our walkers take helps Julia’s House provide vital care, respite and support for children with life-limiting conditions and the people who love them.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Malmesbury League of Friends for their generous offer to match-fund donations – doubling the difference our walkers can make for the families we support."

Walkers will be greeted at the finish line with prosecco, a pulled pork sandwich, and a finisher’s medal. Vegetarian and vegan options will also be available.

The event is open to adults aged 16 and over and welcomes individuals, groups, and corporate teams.

This year, donations raised will be match-funded up to £10,000 by the Malmesbury League of Friends, with all funds supporting Julia’s House services for children with life-limiting and complex medical conditions across Wiltshire and Dorset.

Participants can choose between two fully supported routes.

The half-marathon begins at The Kings Arms and ends at The Clubhouse in Avebury.

The full marathon is a circular route starting and finishing at The Clubhouse.

Both options feature a fully marked path, refreshment stations, and first-aid cover throughout.

Participants will also receive a Julia’s House technical T-shirt and finisher’s medal.

Funds raised will help Julia’s House continue to deliver specialist care, respite, and emotional support to families caring for children with life-limiting conditions.

The charity relies almost entirely on public donations to fund its services.

Registration for the walk closes on July 6, 2026.

Entry costs £20 for the half-marathon and £25 for the full marathon, with a recommended sponsorship target of £150.
