Police have been waiting to catch drivers speeding through a Wiltshire village.

Officers from the Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team have been targeting drivers travelling too fast through Chapmanslade.

Speed checks were conducted on the village High Street, a busy road where there have been multiple complaints about speeding drivers in the past, near the village hall.

During this operation, eight vehicles were clocked breaking the 30mph speed limit which is in place through the village.

The fastest driver was recorded travelling at 40mph.

Police will now be following up to ensure each offender receives “the most suitable outcome”, with all eight motorists set to be offered a speed awareness course.

Officers have urged drivers to watch their speed when travelling around the county.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Weather conditions on the day were mixed, with periods of sunshine and showers, and the roads were damp.

“Subject to individual driving history and any previous offences, all eight drivers will be offered the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course.

“Appropriate follow-up action will now be taken to ensure the most suitable outcome for each offence.

“Be safe. Drive smart. Watch your speed.”
