An international indie band were spotted behind the bar at an iconic Wiltshire pub over the weekend.
On Sunday, June 7, landlords at the Blue Boar in Aldbourne – a pub famous in its own right for its links to Doctor Who – were thrilled to host Australian rock band Sticky Fingers for lunch.
According to landlord Paul Marriott, the band were on their way to south Wales when they decided to swing by the pub after looking into military history in the area.
The Blue Boar is famous beyond Aldbourne chiefly for its double appearance in Doctor Who, and has become a hub for fans of the show.
Commenting on the appearance of the band at The Blue Boar, landlord Paul Marriott said: “It was quite a funny encounter really. We were right in the middle of a busy Sunday lunch service when a group of lads came into the pub.
“At first, a few of us thought they might be on a stag weekend, as they were putting on Australian accents, and both staff and customers were questioning whether they were actually Australian or just having us on.
“After chatting with them, we discovered they really were from Australia and were on their way to Barry Island to film a music video.

“A couple of the group were interested in the Band of Brothers history and the connection between Aldbourne, the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 101st Airborne.
“They had searched online for local places connected to that history, found The Blue Boar, and decided to take a detour to visit us.
“It was only then that they revealed they were the Australian band Sticky Fingers. We put some of their songs on in the pub, they enjoyed a Sunday roast and a few drinks, spent time chatting with staff and customers, posed for some photos, and then continued their journey.
“They were a great bunch of guys, very friendly and down to earth, and it was a pleasure to have them visit. We wish them every success with the music video and their future projects.”
Paul and his partner Debbie took the reigns at The Blue Boar in October last year, a move which they say has had great support from the locals.
Paul went on to say: “We have loved the way the village has taken us under its wing and supported us from the very beginning.
“We are incredibly proud of the history the pub holds and love spontaneous visits like this, which make running such a special village pub so rewarding.”
“Our aim is to continue building on The Blue Boar’s legacy and take it from strength to strength.”
