Melksham HGV crash leaves biker with ‘serious injuries’

A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital with serious leg injuries following a crash with an HGV in the town centre.

Emergency services descended on Market Place in Melksham town centre just before 1pm today (June 9) following a crash between the two vehicles.

Police have confirmed that the motorcyclist suffered “serious leg injuries” in the incident, and was taken to hospital for treatment. No arrests were made.

The road was closed while enquiries got underway, but the force confirmed it has now reopened.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 12.55pm today we responded to a collision between a motorcycle and an HGV in the Market Place, Melksham.

“The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

“No arrests were made.. The road was closed to allow for enquiries to take place and has now reopened.”

The incident saw the fire and ambulance services respond to the incident.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said: “We were called at 12.56pm today (9 June) to Market Place, Melksham to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and HGV.

“Two crews attended from Trowbridge and Chippenham where they made the scene safe. One casualty was handed into the care of the ambulance service, and the stop came in at 1.37pm.”

The South Western Ambulance Service Trust has been approached for comment.
