A man has been jailed for three years and nine months after sexually assaulting, strangling and hitting a woman in her home.

Braham Aissaoui, 52, of Bradford on Avon, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court after pleading guilty to intentional strangulation, assault by beating and sexual assault.

The offences took place between March 26 and 30 this year.

Aissaoui, a UK national, was initially remanded in prison due to the seriousness of the offences and the risk he posed to the victim.

He was sentenced on August 3 and was also given a seven-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the woman.

OIC LCI Ange Dowsett said: “I would like to highlight the resilience and bravery of the victim in this case in reporting these offences.

“Tackling violence against women and girls in our communities is a force priority. We take all such reports extremely seriously - they will be robustly investigated and perpetrators of this violence will be brought before the courts.”

Wiltshire Police said information about support and reporting domestic abuse is available through its website.
