The owners of a missing 11-month-old dachshund are overjoyed after he was found following a huge two-week community effort.
Mary and Brett Tarr were left distraught when pup Wallace disappeared in Steeple Ashton near Trowbridge on August 10 after being spooked by a cyclist and slipping out of his harness.
Search and rescue drones were deployed and villagers also joined in the efforts, searching fields in the area for the past two weeks.
Mary, of Hilperton, said local farmer Simon Cottell and his son Will found Wallace on their farm yesterday just before 4pm.
Simon suffered a hamstring injury, and Will was bitten during the rescue attempt, but both were determined to see Wallace reunited with his owners.
Mary said: “The farmer found him in a badger hole. He’s the hero – everyone’s a hero.
“Wallace was missing for two weeks – it’s been terrible and I was thinking the worst.
“He’s tiny – I didn’t think we’d find him."
Mary said they took Wallace to Harris, Hill and Gibbons vets last night to be checked over.
"He’s lost a lot of weight, and we’ve got to feed him slowly, but he’s doing alright," she said.
“We are just so over the moon – our baby’s home. We’re so grateful to everyone.
“It’s been a real community effort. The people of Steeple Ashton all got involved from day one and we don’t even live there.
“The amount of love we’ve had from the community is amazing. Thank you to everyone.”
Following his ordeal, Mary said they have changed Wallace’s name to William Wallace the Brave.
