A former bank with planning permission to be turned into seven flats is heading back to auction.

The former Lloyds branch on Melksham’s High Street is due to go under the hammer online on Wednesday, September 16, with a guide price of £425,000.

The property was previously marketed for auction in June but is now being offered again by Hollis Morgan.

The building has been vacant for more than four years and has 5,913 sq ft of accommodation, with five off-street parking spaces on Place Road.

Lloyds closed the branch in February 2022 despite a campaign by MPs and local councillors to keep it open.

Planning permission was granted by Wiltshire Council in December 2023 for parts of the building to be converted into seven self-contained apartments.

The scheme includes four one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats.

But the auction listing suggests there could be further potential beyond the existing permission with scope to develop the attic space and use the basement for ancillary storage.

Another option was the potential creation of three large townhouses.

Hollis Morgan said the building could also remain in commercial use as one large unit or split into several smaller units.

Anyone wanting to bid must register by 4pm on Friday, September 11.
