A stolen vehicle was recovered and a murder suspect arrested during a police crackdown on road crime across west Wiltshire.

Officers from Wiltshire Police's Special Constabulary Roads Policing Unit carried out an operation in Trowbridge, Melksham and Bradford on Avon last week, targeting offending on the roads.

During the patrols, officers arrested a murder suspect wanted by another police force.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of one stolen vehicle, the seizure of four vehicles for offences including driving without insurance, disqualified driving, dangerous vehicle defects and tax offences.

Officers also detected four mobile phone offences, one seatbelt offence, two speeding offences in North Bradley and one careless driving offence.

Two illegally used vehicle-related items were seized, while officers also attended a non-injury road traffic collision.

Wiltshire Police said the results highlighted the role played by volunteer Special Constables in tackling road crime and improving safety on the county's roads.

The force said the operation focused on the Fatal Five offences, which include speeding, mobile phone use, failing to wear a seatbelt, drink or drug driving, and careless or dangerous driving.

Police said proactive operations help identify drivers who pose a risk to other road users, while also disrupting wider criminal activity.
