Police caught almost 700 drivers speeding in Wiltshire last month as officers stepped up enforcement across the county.

Wiltshire Police said speed enforcement officers continued targeting speeding hotspots throughout September, resulting in 699 motorists being caught breaking the limit.

Of those, 624 drivers were offered a Speed Awareness Course, while 72 received penalty points and a fine.

Three drivers are due to appear in court.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Speed limits are there to protect everyone using the road.

“Whether you're driving through a village, town or along rural roads, slowing down can make all the difference.

"Thank you to those who drive responsibly and help keep Wiltshire's roads safe."
