Chippenham B are now the only hockey team in 25 leagues with a 100 per cent record.

They had to come from behind on Saturday to overcame a strong West Wilts side and open up a six point lead at the top of the table.

West Wilts started strong and caught Chippenham off-guard in the first ten minutes.

But Chippenham gained their composure and soon started to gain dominance, taking hold of the game.

Playing into the sun made the game difficult, but Chippenham’s persistence in passing wide and around the West Wilts midfield put their defence under some pressure.

The game was even after 20 minutes of the first half, until one of the West Wilts youngsters clipped a very well taken reverse strike into the top corner of the Chippenham net, giving them the lead. West Wilts managed to hold onto this slender lead going into the half-time break.

For the first time this season, Chippenham were behind and although had the majority of play, chances to score were few and far between.

But the pressure began to tell. Chippenham’s Steve Kilvington, hovering in the D, took his chance and beat the stranded West Wilts goalkeeper to open Chippenham’s account.

West Wilts now had to attack with purpose if they were going to take the points. But they left gaps at the back which the fitter Chippenham side took full advantage of.

Ben Copland ran through to score the winning goal and see his team take all three points and remain unbeaten.
