Swindon Town boss Danny Wilson will turn to his squad's more experienced players to help ihis new club climb away from the relegation zone.

Caretaker boss David Byrne had begun blooding the likes of Sean Morrison, Ben Joyce, Callum Kennedy, Mark Marshall and Patrick Kanyuka but with Town just one place above the drop zone Wilson feels he needs wiser heads to collect valuable points.

Wilson said: “Defence is an area where we do need some experience in there. Some of the young boys have played in the team over recent weeks and it is very difficult when they get into a position like they are.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of experience or somebody to come in and just calm the ship down a little bit. That’s what I’m looking for - the experience - and it’s a priority.

“You want players who have been in this position before.

“With young lads you find it difficult because you don’t know how they are going to react.

“But saying that, you get one or two good results and confidence goes sky high.

“So you have to balance it off with that as well, but I think the next game - the Stockport one here - will be a very tough game.

“They’ve had some terrific results away from home this year.

“So to go into it with a pretty young side and some pressure on them might not be the ideal situation.”
