Swindon Town will be without captain Hasney Aljofree for the remainder of the season after he suffered a recurrence of a knee injury.

After Saturday’s goalless draw at Oldham, boss Danny Wilson confirmed that Aljofree, 30, was facing imminent surgery on the persistent wear-and-tear injury to his right knee which will see him join striker Barry Corr on the County Ground’s long-term injury list.

Aljofree has made 17 appearances this term but has yet to feature during Wilson’s brief reign after limping off 20 minutes into the 3-2 home defeat by Yeovil on December 20.

Wilson, who revealed the defender’s injury prompted the offer of a short-term deal to Haitian international centre-back Lescinel Jean-Francois, said: “He (Aljofree) won’t play again this season and it looks like he’ll have to have an operation on his knee.

“He’s done something to it and he’s had a problem for a little while.

“It’s a massive blow because we could have done with him. That’s why we’ve brought Jean-Francois in, because we looked at the bigger picture thinking we may need some cover there.’’ Club physio Club physio Dick Mackey said having already consulted with three specialists, the club will seek the advice of a fourth before deciding their next move.

Corr is also due to go under the surgeon’s knife shortly in a bid to solve a long-standing shoulder injury.

Wilson will be manning the phones in a final bid to secure new faces ahead of the closing of the transfer window at 5pm today.

The manager, who heaped praise on his side for their battling display at Boundary Park, added: “It will be busy in terms of making contact with people because obviously things have to be done by Monday.

“We’re hoping something may happen.’’
