PREMIER Division gladiators Biddestone Social and Corsham Centre go head to head for the first time this season at Yatton Road, Biddestone.

Four-time defending champions Corsham have beaten their hosts to the number one spot in the division in three of the last four campaigns and this term the battle for the silverware is likely to once again feature these two sides. Biddestone, who are top of the table having won all their six matches to date, beat the Centre 4-2 in the corresponding fixture last term and would love a repeat of that scoreline to put some distance between themselves and their fierce rivals, who also have a 100 per cent record after winning five on the trot. This match, like all the others between the sides, should be a classic and, although the Centre won’t be as strong as they have been in recent years, they will be hoping that even without the suspended Craig Gingell the players they have will produce what is needed.

Biddestone side are likely to have all their key players avilable, including former Centre player Dan King.

And on this occasion Biddestone should emerge victorious.

The match is scheduled for Yatton Road but should the game get postponed due to the weather, it is hoped that the fixture would be switched to Meriton Avenue to get it played.

Holt v Dog & Fox Ashley

BASEMENT side Holt are due to host near-neighbours Dog & Fox Ashley this weekend.

And with the visitors having a good record against Stuart Faint’s village side, who are having their worse ever start to any season since they joined the league in 2001, it looks as if the points will be heading back to Bradford.

Holt have won just one of their eight matches to date and find themselves facing the threat of relegation while the Dog & Fox are fourth, having picked up nine points from a possible 12.

The Dog had the bare bones to face champions Corsham Centre last weekend so it will be interesting to see how many players the management duo of Mark Gerrish and Gary Williamson will have available for what ought to be a fifth win of the season.

Maud Heath Sports v Cooper Avon

COOPER Avon have not played a league match since they were beaten 2-1 by Semington Rovers at the end of October and travel to Calne to face a Maud Heath Sports side who will be hoping to build on their 4-3 success over Winsley three weeks ago.

With more rain forecast before the weekend, the chances of the game actually going ahead are slim.

But should it beat the elements, Maud Heath will have to put in their best performance of the season if they are to cause an upset.

This will be the second time this term that these sides have met and it is likely to go the same way as the first one, which saw the tyremen claim a 5-1 victory.

Potterne A v The Gladstone Arms

POTTRENE A and The Gladstone Arms head into their game at Northbrook, Market Lavington, on the back two differing results.

Potterne suffered one of their biggest-ever losses since they joined the league after they were hammered 11-2 by Box Rovers side, who had only managed eight goals in their previous four games. Gladstone Arms will be on a high after beating Semington Rovers 6-1 and are bidding for a third successive victory.

The match has every chance of finishing with the points being shared.

Semington Rovers v Winsley

SEMINGTON Rovers and Winsley are currently in the bottom four and both sides will be desperate to take maximum points when they meet at St Mary’s in Steeple Ashton. Winsley, who have the better record in head to heads between the sides, have lost only once in the previous four meetings and have three victories to their name, the last one coming in March when they thumped Allan Clarke’s side 8-1 with Mike Little leading the rout with a five timer.

Neither side have been at their best this season, both struggling with injuries, so the result of this game could come down to which side can cope best on the day.

If Winsley have the likes of Dean Ranger, Mike Little and Chris Foley on hand they should just edge home.

Westbury Rangers A v Box Rovers

HAVING suffered a 5-3 defeat against Dog & Fox Ashley in their previous game a fortnight ago, Westbury Rangers A will not be looking forward to hosting Box Rovers.

Rovers go into the contest on the back of a emphatic 11-2 victory over Potterne A and Stuart Beeho’s side will be hoping that they haven’t used up all their goals in the one game.

With Westbury and Box being two of the top sides in the Premier Division it is hard to believe that over their last 10 encounters Box have only won two while Westbury have romped to victory in the other eight and have won the last three.

Should the home teams claim the spoils and Biddestone lose against Corsham Centre then Shaun Gardiner’s side would take over at the summit.
