Acclaimed sculptor Patricia Volk, 58, moved to Coppice Hill in Bradford on Avon 22 years ago from London, where she had been working in advertising.

She had always longed to sculpt and when her screenwriter husband Stephen’s career took off she used the opportunity to go to art college.

Her work is focused on personal relationships and the interactions between people, mainly using ceramics. For 15 years she has sculpted symbolic and semi-abstract heads, inspired by the Celtic cult of the head. Her studio is at Stowford Manor Farm in Wingfield, alongside numerous other craft workshops.

She used to enjoy horse riding, but more recently has been exploring her passion for the theatre and for contemporary dance at the ICIA in Bath.

Her latest works went on show yesterday at the View Art Gallery in Bristol.

Why did you move to Wiltshire?

We wanted to move to the countryside and had friends in the West Country.

What is the best Wiltshire view?

I used to go horse riding around Lacock and there are some wonderful views across the country.

You are Queen of Wiltshire for a day; what is the first law you would change or introduce?

I would stop all traffic going through Bradford on Avon.

When you have visitors from out of the county, where do you go?

To the Tithe Barn to visit all the artists studios and galleries, then for breakfast in one of many places around Bradford, then along the lovely walk to Avoncliff or up to Tory. Or to Iford Manor, which is very beautiful.

What is your favourite pub or restaurant?

The Fat Fowl and the Castle, both in Bradford. The Castle is a very old fashioned pub with a modern concept. Both serve food all day which is great.

What local sports teams do you support, if any?

None.

What do you do for fun?

My work is my fun I suppose. I also love films, the theatre, and watching dance. And good conversation and having people over for dinner.

Describe your house and garden. What do you love about it?

Built in the 1690s, it is an old weavers cottage with a lot of beautiful architectural features. We designed the interior to be contemporary, and very simple. There is a shared communal garden but I am not much of a gardener.
