An illustrator with children’s classic The Beano paid a visit pupils at Hilperton Primary School to help with their comic themed week.

Pupils from three classes got to work with Kev Sutherland, who writes and draws the Bash St Kids adventures in The Beano as well as other comic strips, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Headteacher Ruth Farrell said: “We are having a book week to try and get the children engaged with reading books and getting them excited about writing.

“So we decided as stimulation for the week we would invite Kev Sutherland, who is a cartoon illustrator.”

A whole school assembly was held at the start of the week, where Mr Sutherland showed the children how to create their own cartoons, then on Tuesday and Wednesday older children worked with him on creating cartoon story books.

Each child had their own book, which contained caricatures of themselves and everyone in their class, created by the illustrator, who has worked for Marvel Comics, Viz, 2000AD and Funday Times.
