Radio 2 breakfast DJ Chris Evans roared into Longleat with seven vintage Ferraris as part of a fundraising tour for Children In Need.

The DJ had auctioned off the chance to drive the supercars in the 2010 Drivetime Dine and Disco to seven listeners, raising £250,000 for the children’s charity.

The Magnificent Seven 200-mile tour pulled into the stately home near Warminster, after driving in convoy from Chris’ home in Berkshire, meeting Lord Bath who came out to greet them.

Each of the seven drivers had paid an average of £35,000 for the four-day experience.

Chris said: “It’s going brilliantly so far – we’ve just completed our first leg of 84 miles and have had no accidents so far.

“The drivers are getting used to handling the beasts and are grinning from ear to ear and we’re raising money for a good cause.

“Lord Bath is looking resplendent as well. It was a pleasure to meet him, I’ve never been here before.”

The cars, including a 1961 Ferrari 250 California Spyder and a 1971 Ferrari Dino, all used to be part of Chris’s collection, but he recently sold three when he bought a £12 million 1963 Ferrari 250 GT.

He had persuaded the new owner to let the car be used on the tour.

Chris, however, arrived in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce, as he was uninsured to drive during the event.

He added that he was unconcerned about letting seven strangers drive the cars, which are worth millions of pounds.

And he said: “These cars are there to be driven, the more they are driven the more they love it. We’ll definitely do it next year.”

Lord Bath, who greeted Chris on the steps of Longleat House, said: “I’m very impressed by the array of beautiful cars. It’s the first time we have met and he seems a very nice man, it’s for a very good cause.”

During the pit stop at Longleat, a crowd gathered to admire the vintage vehicles and have photographs taken with Chris.

Paul Webster, one of the seven drivers, said: “You only live once so you should just go for it, why not?

“This is it, it’s never going to happen again. It’s great to be part of it.”
