Neston Primary School welcomed pupils young and old to mark its 150th anniversary on Friday.

Children from each class dressed in costumes to represent different eras as they showed visitors around the Church Rise school before finishing with maypole dancing.

Headteacher Linda Davies, who is due to retire at the end of the year after being there 21 years, said: “Neston Primary has always been at the heart of the community and it was good to see local people turning out to join our 150th celebrations.”

Mrs Davies said she was proud of how the day went and thanked everyone involved in organising the event, which lasted from 1.30-9.30pm with musical performances rounding off the celebrations.

Chairman of governors Gillian Pratt said: “It was a fantastic day which brought the community together.”

There were plenty of refreshments and fairground attractions to keep everyone entertained, and all the school’s classrooms were decorated for the occasion.

There was also a memorabilia room which had photos and newspaper cuttings about the school which had been collected over its 150-year existence.

Many former pupils attended the event too, including Darren Hunt, 40, who was at the school between 1977 and 1982.

He said: “I’ve come back here with my younger brother Malcolm, who left in 1984, it’s been quite nice reliving our school days.”

The school, which had a large extension in 1996 and a mezzanine floor in 2008, is currently planning to add two new classrooms.
