THE popular landlord and landlady of Corsham’s The Flemish Weaver are leaving after running the pub for two years.

Dawn and Mac McHugh, the former Trowbridge rugby coach, will be giving up running the pub, in Corsham High Street, in March next year.

The couple have said they’re leaving as they now want to concentrate on the development of Mr McHugh’s stained glass business Great Panes, which provides windows for churches both nationally and internationally.

Mrs McHugh, 50, owner of former Bath nightclub Beau Nash and children’s clothing shop Bratz, said: “We are planning to leave because trade isn’t as good as it once was and it will be really, really sad when we do eventually leave.

“From the word go we’ve put loads of hours in and dedicated lots of our time to this pub.

“We’ve had great staff, but sadly we have had to start cutting back a bit recently and we’ve had to work more hours.”

Enterprise, the brewery who own The Flemish Weaver, has yet to find replacements for the McHughs.

The couple plan to stay in Corsham because their 15-year-old daughter Phoebe is studying at The Corsham School.

Mrs McHugh said: “We will still be around and I’m sure we’ll still be in touch with all our great friends who we have made while we have been at The Flemish Weaver.

“We’ve yet to find somewhere to live in Corsham, but we are looking and planning to stay in the town to maintain stability in Phoebe’s education.”

Before the McHughs leave the pub they are planning on holding a series of parties including a 1920s-themed Christmas party and a big leaving party for their regulars before they go in March.

Mrs McHugh said: “We had a great Halloween party last week with live music and we want to do something special at Christmas while also saying thank you to our regulars with our leaving party next year.”
