Although I did not attend the Wiltshire Council’s Roadshow on 0ctober 7, I read the information sent out by the council regarding the new recycling bin.

I immediately phoned them to ask if they could deliver a bag instead, since there was no suitable spare space for a bin in my front garden – a request that was obviously far too simple to be implemented.

Like Mrs Blackmore I was told someone from the council would visit to discuss the matter.

What high-handedness and a complete waste of resources and our council tax to send an employee round to tell me what I can fit into my own garden.

Despite my protests, someone did try to visit me, but I was out. Once again, I phoned them, leaving a message that there was no room for a bin.

No reply to this, other than the arrival of a big bin outside my gate. I phoned them a couple more times to ask them to take away something I categorically said I didn’t want in the first place, and which was obstructing the pavement.

I had an extremely helpful member of staff noting this, and saying it would be taken away as soon as possible.

Three weeks later, it is still there with indications that its removal could take weeks. From what I gathered, there had been many other such requests.

Much as I approve of recycling – I already do so – the council’s implementation of this has been very badly organised. The phrase ‘sledgehammer to crack a nut’ comes to mind.
