A 24-HOUR cycling challenge is being tackled by Trowbridge firefighters this weekend to raise money for charity.

The route will take in all 24 of Wiltshire’s fire stations, starting and finishing at Trowbridge. More than a dozen cyclists have already signed up to do the whole route – more than 190 miles – while others will join for individual stages.

Organiser Andy Mumford said: “We don’t want this to be a race so we’ve set out timings for when we intend to arrive at each fire station. Some of the stages are quite easy, the shortest is only 3.1 miles, while the longest is nearly 15 miles.”

The cycle challenge is the first of a series of events being organised by staff at Trowbridge fire station to mark the 50th anniversary of the facility being at its current location on Hilperton Road.

Money raised will go to the Firefighters Charity and Wiltshire Air Ambulance, SWIFT Medics, Hope Nature Centre, Stepping Stones Pre-School and Dorothy House Hospice.
