Trowbridge man Shane William Gulliver has been charged with grievous bodily harm following the stabbing of 25-year-old Shaun Hulbert in the town on Tuesday evening.

The 33-year-old man was arrested near to the scene, charged the following day and is appearing at before Salisbury Magistrates on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at Manor House Flats, on Frome Road, at around 5.45pm.

Mr Hulbert was flown to Britstol Royal Infirmary by Wiltshire Air Ambulance, who landed at nearby Clarendon College.

Paramedics from the Great Western Ambulance Service treated him on the scene at 5.52pm until he could be airlifted. A spokesperson said: "He was fully conscious but he had a serious trauma wound to the chest.

"A hospital resusicitation team was on stand-by which indicates the serious nature of the incident."

The man arrived at the hospital by 7pm in a critical condition, but he is now stable.

The area was sealed off by five police units for several hours, while forensic experts looked for clues at the scene of a silver Vauxhall estate car, which had all of its windows smashed.

Det Sgt Sarah Robbins, investigating the stabbing, said:  “We would like to hear from local residents or anyone who was in the area and might have seen or heard anything.

"Did you see this incident or hear something between 5.30pm and 5.50pm that might assist us in our investigation?

"I would urge to come forward and talk to us, no matter how small, you may hold crucial information that will help us.

"In particular, we are still in the process of talking to neighbours in the area and would ask those who we haven’t spoken too yet to get in touch.”
