CALLING all amateur musicians who want to perform with a professional orchestra – but only for a day!

Have you ever played an instrument in the past but not had the opportunity in recent years? Then now is your chance to dust off your instrument and revive your talent!

The opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians takes place on Sunday, November 5 at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford-on-Avon.

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Rusty & Not So Rusty Musicians ‘Symphony in a Day’ allows amateur musicians to perform alongside the full BSO in concert.

Rusty and Not So Rusty Musicians benefit from specialist coaching during rehearsals with BSO musicians, professional instruction from a BSO conductor, and meet like-minded people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Participation Co-ordinator Ben Jennings said: “The day is open to players of standard orchestral instruments and percussion, and is aimed at young fledgling talent, those who would like to experience playing in an orchestra, and also give those who may be more rusty a reason to begin playing once more.

“Everyone is welcome, with a recommended standard of Grade 5 advised to ensure participants gain the most from the experience.”

Conductor Kevin Smith will lead the rehearsals and performance of Dvorak’s Symphony No.9. Symphony in a Day gives you the opportunity to perform alongside professional BSO musicians in rehearsals and a concert, as well as offering professional coaching to help amateur musicians to maximise their experience.

Rehearsals will take place from 10am, with sectionals in the morning and a full rehearsal after lunch before a final free concert at 4.15pm to showcase everyone’s hard work.

Ben added: “For many BSO Rusty Musician participants, the project is an unforgettable experience and becomes one of the highlights of the musical calendar, returning year after year having made firm friendships with other Rusty musicians.

“With an emphasis on fun and taking place in a supportive atmosphere, the project is a great way for amateur musicians to meet like-minded people and enjoy the achievement of performing repertoire usually only undertaken by professional orchestras.”
