BATH’S newly-elected MP, Wera Hobhouse, was guest of honour at the Chippenham Constituency Liberal Democrat Annual Dinner in Bradford on Avon last Saturday.
Liberal Democrats from across the area gathered in the town’s St Margaret’s Hall for a three-course dinner, an auction of promises and a speech from Ms Hobhouse.
Ms Hobhouse, who won the Bath constituency for the Liberal Democrats in June, is the party’s local government spokesperson and a member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Exiting the European Union.
In her speech, she explained how she has campaigned for more social housing and for an ‘updated’ referendum on Brexit once people could see the potential problems.
Lib Dem candidate for Chippenham Constituency in the 2017 General Election, Helen Belcher, also attended the dinner and said: “Guests really appreciated hearing Wera’s views on the difficult issues to be tackled as we prepare to leave the EU.
“It was also encouraging to hear her repeat the Lib Dem call for a referendum on the final deal, so that the public has a final say.
“The dinner was also an opportunity to fundraise for the next General Election campaign. Wera’s success in Bath shows that Liberal Democrats can win in this area and her work in Parliament shows how effective a local MP can be.”
