AN OPTICIANS in Warminster marked Sport Relief with a skittle and darts evening which raised £337.

Specsavers in Warminster challenged the team from Specsavers in Frome to a skittle competition at a local pub, while also enjoying a game of darts or two.

The fundraising event involved people donating £3 to take part, and the directors boosted the total by paying a pound for every skittle pin that got knocked down. However it was no ordinary games of skittles. To help demonstrate the challenges those with limited eyesight face and appreciate playing from both perspectives, teams played the first round blindfolded.

Store director at Specsavers Warminster, Martyn Thomas, says: "We wanted to mark Sport Relief and thought embracing some healthy competition with a challenging fundraiser was a fun way to do so.

"By playing blindfolded we were able to show the ability to take part in sports regardless of your vision. The activity also highlighted the need to wear protective specs in sports to prevent eye related injuries.

"Staff never cease to amaze me when it comes to fundraising. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to raise such a great total for the charity. Thanks to the impressive turnout, we had lots of fun, and everyone really entered into the spirit of the night."

Frome beat Warminster by three pins and took home the trophy and prizes, while the opposing team took home packets of Skittles.
