RAINFALL in the county was nearly double the average in March according to the latest data collected by Wiltshire Council.

Recorded by amateur weatherman Geoff Witts at his home in Steeple Ashton, the total rainfall was measured at 77.3mm in comparison to the 54.3mm average – much of which fell on the night of March 27 when Storm Katie hit the county.

Temperatures were below normal, being colder than average since September. March 7 was recorded as the coldest with temperatures plummeting to -2.9C.

The warmest day was March 25 where Wiltshire basked in sunshine and highs of 16.5C.
