SUCCESS in supporting careers education and helping young people into the world of work has won Matravers School national recognition as it was named National School of the Year by the Careers & Enterprise Company.

More than 200 nominations were submitted for this year’s nine award categories, which were decided by a panel of independent judges.

Teachers Beth Teale and Michelle Drewitt collected the award at the conference in London on July 4.

Head Dr Simon Riding said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our outstanding work in this aspect of our school. We work hard to ensure that our pupils are not only successful in terms of examination results and qualifications, but also that they have the aptitudes to use them in a quickly changing world.”

Claudia Harris, chief executive of The Careers & Enterprise Company, said: “We hope these awards are a way to say thank you and shine a light on this work.”
