FOUR-YEAR-OLDS from across Westbury and their favourite cuddly toys enjoyed a teddy bears' picnic in the sunshine as part of a programme of activities for those transitioning to Westbury Leigh Primary School in September.

The picnic, which was organised by Cygnets Pre-School, hosted by the Primary School, and open to all new reception pupils, took place on the school field and offered a great opportunity for the youngsters to acquaint themselves with the school surroundings.

Parents were invited to attend with their little ones too, with head teacher Debbie Grimsey and members of teaching staff on hand to answer any queries.

Emma Osmond, manager of Cygnets Pre-School said: "The picnic was one of several events organised to help familiarise the children with big school and was a great success. A large number of Cygnets children are joining Westbury Leigh Primary School in September and events like this are an essential part of making sure they are as well prepared as possible. We were delighted that so many could attend - everyone had a wonderful time and we couldn't have asked for better weather."

In addition to the picnic, children have been taking part in a number of visits to the school in recent weeks, as well as play sessions and opportunities to experience school dinners, all helping prepare them for starting school in the autumn.
