Two men have been sentenced following attacks on officers at Erlestoke prison last year.
Daniel Nicholas, age 29, originally from Aberdare, and Simon Williams, age 26, originally from Aberbargoed, both appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on 23 August.
Nicholas pleaded guilty to affray and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, while Williams pleaded guilty to affray, GBH with intent, and two counts of ABH and was sentenced to six years imprisonment.
On 1 August 2017, Williams broke up a serving trolley and handed out the broken trolley legs to other inmates. A number of prison officers were then assaulted, and sustained varying degrees of injuries from cuts and bite marks, to a broken jaw.
Detective Constable Toni Nugent said: “This was a prolonged attack on staff at Erlestoke, led by Williams who dismantled a serving trolley to help inmates protect themselves as well as cause further injury to staff.
“Some of the injuries sustained were serious and required hospital treatment.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and I am pleased that these sentences will be added on to the current sentences they are both serving.”
These sentences will be added on to the sentences they are currently serving.
