Young people’s lives are so busy that they are wasting 50 per cent more food than people over 65.

That's what anti-waste charity Wrap says in a report claiming that millennials are throwing away an obscene amount of food.

Millennials, so called due to being born in the 1980s or 1990s, are the main culprits when it comes to food waste.

They're supposed to be the environmentally-minded generation but it seems they're not putting their money where their mouth is - or at least not putting their food where their mouth is.

The report claims: “On average lower levels of waste were generated in households containing older people compared to younger people, with those aged 18-34 wasting the most.”

So how can you stop wasting food?

1. Plan your meals for the week

2. Write a shopping list and don’t deviate

3. Eat leftovers instead of throwing them away and starting again

4. Measure out food when cooking so you don’t over-cook

5. Don’t do a food shop and then eat out during the week
