WARMINSTER Town are hoping to hire a manager keen to bring young players through the ranks after Andy Crabtree left the club.

Crabtree, who finished the 2015-16 season in charge at Weymouth Street after joint-boss Derek Graham departed during the latter stages of the campaign, has decided not to stay on with Warminster next term.

Crabtree and Graham first took over in November 2013, which was their second spell in charge of the club.

Beneath their first team, who finished 17th in the Toolstation League First Division last season, Warminster are reshuffling their pack, with their U18s side withdrawing from the Wiltshire Senior League U18 Floodlit Division to be replaced by a new Warminster Town ‘A’ side, who will ply their trade in the Trowbridge & District League.

“I spoke to Andy last week and he decided that he would be leaving, so we need to bring somebody new in,” said Warminster chairman Pete Russell.

“Even though they finished at the bottom of the league, I remember watching us against Bishop Sutton and seeing how many youngsters they had and how they all played good football.

“It would be nice if we could get someone that wants to bring through the youth.

“There isn’t really anywhere for our U16s to go after they finish (in the Mid Wilts Youth League). Having a team in the Floodlit League didn’t really work out for us.

“But we’ve had a bit of a tie-up with Warminster Highbury Youth for a little while and our new A side is going to play in the Trowbridge League – like our reserves – at one of their pitches.

“It means that there’s a progression there and that should help us bring through those young players.”
