THE timing finally feels bang on the money for Trowbridge mixed martial artist Scott Clist after he claimed his second successive Cage Warriors knockout victory last weekend.

In April, the 38-year-old enjoyed a champagne moment as he stopped Brad Wheeler in his first fight on the high-profile UK-based promotion and on Saturday, Clist was back producing more magic at London’s Camden Centre as he halted the highly-rated Tim Wilde, taking his opponent to the ground before pounding the 29-year-old into submission after one minute and 28 seconds of round two.

Trowbridge’s Clist, who boosted his professional record to 11-2 in front of the TV cameras, earned all manner of praise for his performance and is now being touted for greater things, including a title shot against Liverpool’s Chris Fishgold, who breezed past Adam Boussif to win the Cage Warriors lightweight belt on the same bill.

After years of attempting to get his MMA career off the ground, Trowbridge’s Clist feels that things are finally coming together for him in emphatic style.

“One of the commentators said ‘where has this guy been? Well, it doesn’t matter because he’s here now’ and I think that’s a great comment,” said Clist.

“I’d say that I’ve probably been in the wrong place for a long time – I was in the wrong gym and in the wrong place mentally but now, things are awesome.

“When you’re in Cage Warriors, every opponent you fight is good and Tim Wilde was a great opponent.

“He was 8-1 before fighting me and his movement was so unorthodox. It was hard to get a beat on him in the first round but in the second, I managed to read one of his strikes, get the takedown, and finish him from there.

“I’m in title contention now and people are talking about me fighting Chris Fishlock – I’d definitely be up for that.

“Cage Warriors is massive and the next place to go is the UFC. There have been 71 fighters who have gone from Cage Warriors to the UFC, so maybe I’ll get that phone call.”

Clist trains under Stu Pike and Wiltshire UFC fighter Brad Scott at Melksham’s Dragonslair Gym, as well as Mark Kent at Trowbridge’s Contender Gym.

The Wiltshire fighter is also sponsored by Badboy Supplements.
