MANAGER Nigel Tripp will file Corsham Town’s draw with Almondsbury UWE under the folder marked ‘point gained’ after admitting his side failed to hit the heights on Wednesday night.

Mid-table Corsham welcomed the struggling Almonds to the Southbank but were unable to get the better of their South Gloucestershire opponents, who netted around 10 minutes from time to cancel out Luke Murden’s first-half opener and snatch a share of the spoils.

Tripp thought that his team didn’t perform anywhere near their potential but with a recently-assembled clutch of youngsters still bedding in to life at the club, the Corsham boss was happy to settle for a stalemate.

“We had a 16-year-old playing and two 17-year-olds. We’ve got a new team together and most of them are all under 21, so it’s a work in progress,” said Tripp.

“It’s positive and I think that we’re heading in the right direction but I did think that our performance wasn’t very good against Almondsbury.

“We had quite a few lads missing but our passing wasn’t great and we didn’t really work hard enough – it was wasn’t a good performance from us.

“I think that we’ve played a lot better than that and lost, so we’ll count it as a point gained.”

On Saturday, Corsham, who are currently 13th in the table, beat Welton Rovers 2-0 thanks to goals from Philip Baker and Jon Bazley.

Elsewhere, Warminster Town suffered a derby defeat at Weymouth Street on Wednesday as they were beaten 4-2 by county rivals Chippenham Park.

Francois Allen netted to put Mark Breffit’s side in front before Park turned the game on its head with goals either side of half-time.

Louis Sparey struck to make it 2-2 and restore parity once again but Park found the net twice more to stamp their authority on proceedings, with Warminster’s Charlie Walton picking up a second booking late on to leave the hosts down to 10 men.

On Saturday, Breffit’s men were also beaten 2-0 at Bishops Lydeard.

On Tuesday, Westbury United fared better than neighbours Warminster in a clash with county rivals as they bested Calne Town 2-1.

With 32 minutes on the clock, Calne’s Ollie Webb opened the scoring with a spectacular long-range strike but United drew level in the dying moments of the half as Otis Young teed up Conor McKay to curl home from 25 yards.

And there was still time for James Goddard’s team to put themselves ahead before the break as George Bendle struck shortly after McKay’s equaliser.

Luck played its part in Westbury holding on to their advantage as Kris Beasley’s effort clipped the United bar whilst Charlie Heydon did well to keep out a Stuart Windsor header but the home side held on for all three points.

On Saturday, there was less to smile about for Westbury as they lost 4-1 at Oldland Abbotonians, Young netting.
