WESTBURY skipper Alex Senneck says there is some comfort to take despite losing to Thornbury. in Prem Two Glos/Wilts last weekend.

Senneck’s troops were sent to the field after the home side won the toss and found themselves chasing a huge total of 310-5.

The away side put up a good fight to reach the target, Michael Coles leading the way with a score of 128, while Richard Mills wasn’t too far behind with 78.

However, Westbury ultimately fell short as they accumulated 285-9 in total.

The Westbury skipper says there were positives to take from the performance, especially after last weekend’s innings, where they could only muster 75 runs against Burbage & Easton Royal.

“We certainly batted better this weekend than we did in the previous week, where we only got 75,” he said.

“Obviously, we had different conditions and a better wicket but it is still better to go out and get a decent score.

“Chasing 310 is always going to be a struggle, but we were 220-2 so we were certainly in the game and it is a shame we weren’t able to see it all the way through.

“So 285 was encouraging but we still lost. The start to the season isn’t what we were looking for to be honest.

“Two losses out of three isn’t ideal, it was good to get a win in the first game, but to follow it up with two defeats has been a bit disappointing.

“At this stage we are looking to improve as we go along, we’ve got a key fixture against Corsham. They were relegated last year and haven’t made the best start so we are looking to turn around our last couple of results - it will be interesting to see how we match up against them.”

Elsewhere in the division, Trowbridge also suffered a defeat as they were beaten at home to Dumbleton by 53 runs.

Trowbridge won the toss an opted to field, but soon found themselves up against it as the visitors slowly put together a tally of 215.

With the bat, Tom Weaver’s side were uninspiring, after they were dispatched for 162.

Both teams return to action at the weekend, Westbury welcome Corsham, while Trowbridge play host to Rockhampton.
