WILTSHIRE Youth canoeist Ed Nightingale starred for Great Britain at the Piestany International Regatta in Slovakia at the weekend by bagging a gold and two silver medals.

The talented youngster, from West Ashton, teamed up with Jack Brockway to land the K2 boys 200m title before silver medals were added to GB’s impressive haul in the K1 boys 200m and 500m events.

In total, Great Britain won seven gold, four silver and six bronze medals with every member of the team qualifying for a final.

Other gold medallists for Team GB include Georgia Carmichael and Kate Hipkins, who teamed up to claim silver in the K2 girls event, while Freya Peters and Emma Russell also earned gold in the K2 Junior race over 500m.

Georgia Carmichael, Beatrice Clark, Amber Cox and Kate Hipkins won the K4 girls race over 500m while Emma Russell starred in the 500m and 1,000m K1 events.

Russell later partnered Freya Peters to win the K2 Junior race over 1,000m.
