WILTSHIRE swimmer Stephanie Millward finished fifth in the women’s multi-classification 400m freestyle on the opening day of the British Summer Championships in Sheffield on Tuesday.
Box’s Millward, clocked 4:52.97 at the Ponds Forge centre to earn 730 points as Hoddesdon’s Grace Harvey came out on top courtesy of her 869 points.
Millward, representing Corsham ASC, was contesting just the one event, having seen her hopes of representing Great Britain in next month’s European Championships ended by an illness that forced her to sit out of last month’s trials.
The 36-year-old, who has won nine Paralympic medals including two golds in Rio two years ago, is continuing in her quest to compete at a fourth Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 despite having her funding withdrawn by British Para Swimming last year.
