WEST Wiltshire squad Team Proto-Col Multisport’s final preparations for this weekend’s European Biathle Championships could not have gone any better as members secured four titles at the National Biathle Championships last the weekend.

Under the watchful eye of head performance coach, Richard Smith, the squad travelled to Manchester full of confidence and delivered some outstanding race performances.

Nine-year-old Will Smith, racing in his first year of biathle, set the tone with a fantastic second place finish in the 9-10 years youth race.

In the Master A race (O40s), James Greenwell was a standout favourite, having just returned from the Modern Penthathlon Age Group World Championships with a silver medal.

Competing alongside Team Proto-Col team-mate, Kypros Harrison, Greenwell set a blistering pace from the gun leaving the field behind to chase the minor positions.

With a gold medal, national title and world championship qualification guaranteed, Greenwell became a spectator on the finish line to cheer Harrison in for bronze.

In the Masters B race (O50s), Team Proto-Col were represented by coach Smith and Amanda Drabble.

Despite having to recover from a bike crash and an Ironman triathlon just two weeks ago, Smith excelled and crossed the finish line a whole 400m run lap ahead of the field to take gold.

Meanwhile, Drabble, who only took up multisport racing three years ago, has worked tirelessly both physically and technically and this hard work was rewarded with a gold medal in another dominant performance.

In the final and most keenly contested event of the day, Dan Shepherd was flying the flag for Team Proto-Col in the senior men’s contest and he continued the winning trend by crossing the finish line some 15 seconds in front of his rivals.

With all medallists qualifying for the World Biathle Championships in October, six members of Team Proto-Col will now head out to Weiden, Germany, this weekend for the European Triathle and Biathle Championships.
