WESTBURY United joint manager Neil Kirkpatrick revealed the club are sweating over a selection crisis ahead of their clash with Plymouth Parkway this Saturday.

With goalkeeper Ed Baldy injured and a string of replacements unavailable, the Westbury boss admits he is scratching around to find someone to play between the sticks at the weekend.

Last time out, Westbury further demonstrated their Toolstation Premier Division credentials with a 3-1 win over league leaders Willand Rovers .

But while they are the only side with a 100 per cent win ratio, the Westbury boss says he has no expectations heading into this weekend’s away fixture.

“At the moment we don’t have a goalkeeper,” he said.

“We are struggling and it is a massive task going down there anyway. “However, it is a free hit for us - I felt if we could get something out of either of these two games then we’d do well.

“To pick up three points against Willand is a bonus, we have nothing to lose.

“The players are realistic so we will go down and give a good account of ourselves.

“The pressure is on them because if they don’t win the league then they have underachieved.

“Our lads can test themselves. You want to be tested, it is great to be going down there although it would be better if we had a goalkeeper.''

“Ed picked up an injury in an FA Vase game a few weeks ago, our goalkeeping coach is away, then we have had Gareth Evans, Marcus Price too - we have used five keepers this season.

“I’m speaking to a few clubs to see if we can borrow one, if not, I don’t know what we are going to do.”

Despite their personnel problems, Kirkpatrick says squad morale is sky high after their win over table topping Willand at the weekend.

“We took massive encouragement from the weekend because Willand are a good side,” he said.

“I suppose we felt we could cause them a lot of problems and that is how it panned out.

“They won’t be far away at the end of the season, as far as we are concerned, people are taking notice of us now.

“We just have to be consistent. If we are and if we keep doing what we are doing, there is no reason why we can’t compete at the higher end of the league.

“Why can’t we go and be in the top six? You never know, but we have only played seven games and we still have a long way to go.”
