MELKSHAM Town’s impressive start to life in the Southern League continued as they stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 3-2 victory over Cinderford Town on Saturday.
Kieran Baggs’ side racked up their third league win as Jon Davies netted twice to help down the Forest of Dean visitors.
In a lively opening spell, Melksham were indebted to goalkeeper Darren Behcet for keeping out the visitors, while Andy Sandell – in his final match before the end of his loan spell from Chippenham – also went close and Cinderford had a goal ruled out for offside.
The breakthrough arrived on 39 minutes as Neikell Plummer touched the ball home after good work by Davies.
And Melksham made an excellent start to the second period as Davies burst through and fired home to double the hosts’ advantage on 47 minutes.
Both Davies and Sandell went close again, but the visitors halved the deficit with 10 minutes remaining as Nicholas Grimes found the net.
Five minutes later however, Davies fired home from the penalty spot to restore Melksham’s two-goal lead, rendering the late strike from Richard Greaves for Cinderford merely a consolation.
