JOINT-MANAGER Neil Kirkpatrick has labelled Westbury United’s start the Toolstation League Premier Division season as ‘ridiculous’ after they collected their eighth straight win of the season.

Following their promotion from the First Division last year, United have made a faultless transition and remain the only side yet to lose a game in both divisions.

With maximum points from their opening eight encounters, Kirkpatrick is naturally delighted with his side, especially after overcoming a selection problem during the week.

After losing their goalkeepers to injury and unavailability, teenager Brandon Sawyer was between the sticks for their 1-0 win over Plymouth Parkway, secured by Callum Demkiv's goal.

“It unbelievable, what can I say it’s ridiculous. The lads were a different class on Saturday. I over the moon because we keep saying, can we upset one of the big boys? And we’ve done that alright,” said Kirkpatrick.

“It shows we have strength in depth. We played a 17-year-old in goal and we must say a big thank you to Trowbridge (Town) for being so co-operative because he was outstanding.

“They were all tremendous. The work ethic and togetherness was superb, they’re a new group too so hopefully they’ll only get better.

“They’re young and we aren’t daft, so I think our biggest task will be to get them motivated to play a team who are struggling in the league.

“All we can do is keep drumming into them that ever game is a tough game. We are there to be shot at now and everyone will want a piece of us.”

With keeper Ed Baldy out for a further month, while Lewis Porter is still unavailable for the weekend, Kirkpatrick will have to go back to the drawing board in terms of a gloveman.

The Westbury boss has plenty to think about ahead of their FA Vase clash with Saltash United at the weekend.

“Lewis Porter is available from Tuesday, for the Wiltshire Senior Cup and we have a couple of options for Saturday but I wouldn’t want to mess anyone around,” he added.

“We’ve got a decision to make, we have a seven-day approach in for another keeper, so we will have to see because Saturday will be our hardest game of the season.

“We played them earlier in the season and they were by far the best team we have come across so far.”
