BRADFORD Town interim manager Robbie Simmonds says the club need to go back to basics if they are to turn their fortunes around.

Simmonds was installed as the manager on a temporary after Rob Mallett was relieved of his duties at Trowbridge Road.

The Bobcats are ninth in the table after four wins in 10 Toolstation League Premier Division games.

However, those victories all came in the first month of the season and their current run of form reads as five straight defeats with a 2-1 loss to Chipping Sodbury on Saturday, skipper Martin Lenihan with their goal.

Simmonds, who was assistant to Mallett says as far as he is concerned he is happy to fill in for as long as necessary.

“Rob was aware that his future was going to go one of two ways, he was either going to be given a bit more time to change things, or he’d run out of time,” he said.

“Obviously, he was called in and we spoke. He thanked us for our help and the chairman Mark called asking if I’d take it on for the moment.

“Being a Bradford lad through and through, I played there and I coached under Danny Greaves as well.

“If they offered it to me full time, I would be interested 100 per cent. I’ve been told that I’m there at the moment and that is it.

“I don’t think they’re speaking to anyone else at the minute but they’re going to be open and honest if they do.”

After their positive start to the season, Simmonds insists the ability of the players is not the issue currently hampering his side.

“After a really good start, I think they just lost their way and lost direction a little bit,” he said. “They lost their confidence. If you look at how we started, they proved they have the talent.

“Rob tried several different things, some things worked and a lot of them didn’t so I think he has paid the penalty a little bit because of it.

“Now the club wants a bit of stability and that is what I am for. We are trying to go back to doing the basics right instead of doing other things.

“We need a right balance of players between luxury players and the workmen.”
