WESTBURY United dropped points for the first time this season after drawing 1-1 at home to Hallen at the weekend.

Prior to the fixture, the newly-promoted side boasted a faultless record of eight straight victories in the Toolstation League Premier Division.

Neil Kirkpatrick’s troops were able to bounce back to winning ways on Wednesday night, though, as they triumphed 2-1 at home to Bitton.

With a record of nine wins and one draw, Westbury remain the only unbeaten team across both of the league’s divisions but due to a lengthy list of injuries, including Ed Bouldy, Jamie Jordan and Dan Kovacs, joint-manager Kirkpatrick believes it was only a matter of time before they dropped points.

“At the weekend, we never really got going, we have a long long injury list at the moment and I think it is starting to catch up with us a little bit,” said Kirkpatrick.

“I have said all along the games against the teams in the middle of the table are always the ones which will be difficult to predict.

“Ed is probably still a couple of weeks away in goal, Ben Griffiths is a big concern because we are not sure if he has shin splints or a hairline fracture, so he’s seeing a specialist for a scan.

“Dan Jordan is another one who is probably a few weeks away with a back injury, he played every game last season.

“Dan Kovacs is another one. He has had a real stop-start season, really. He got injured against Plymouth Parkway and his leg is fine, it can weight bear but the bruising is just really deep.

“He scores goals and links up an awful lot of what we do. I just think it’s starting to catch up with us.”

Along with the crowded treatment room, a hectic fixture schedule is the last thing United needed.

However, there is no respite for Westbury as they have two games a week for the next fortnight, starting with Clevedon Town on Saturday.

“Wednesday was another big hit against one of the big boys,” said Kirkpatrick.

“We still put out a competitive side even though we have a few out injured, the players who have come in have all done well when they have had the shirt.

“We could have done with a break, but it is what it is and it is the same for all the other teams in the league.”

  • WARMINSTER Town scored two goals in the last 10 minutes to earn a 2-1 win at Bishops Lydeard in the Toolstation League First Division on Saturday.

Jake Wright and Eben Mortimer-Taylor were both on target for Andy Crabtree’s side.

Meanwhile, Corsham Town went down 3-0 at Keynsham Town.
