WESTBURY United joint-manager Neil Kirkpatrick says his side have given no consideration to what they could achieve this season after climbing to the top of the Toolstation League Premier Division table.

United extended their unbeaten start in the league to an 11th game on Saturday with a thrilling 5-3 win at Clevedon Town and are now two points clear at the summit with two games in hand on second-placed Bridgwater Town.

After leading Westbury to the First Division title last season, Kirkpatrick is astonished at how well his side have kept their momentum going but believes it is much too early to even think about any further glory this term.

“I know it is the boring answer but we will just take it one game at a time. We can’t think about anything beyond what comes next,” said Kirkpatrick, who manages the team alongside his son Joe.

“We have unbelievably well. It is amazing, really, especially considering the upheaval we had in the summer with changes to the squad.

“We have just got to enjoy it while it lasts because it will come to an end at some point, that is bound to happen. When it does, it is how we react that is important.”

Ricky Hulbert led the way for Westbury in their win at Clevedon with a brace of goals, while Jordan Pinder, Dan Kovacs and Callum Demkiv were also on target.

However, Kirkpatrick felt his side made life harder for themselves than they needed to despite a five-star showing in front of goal.

“It should have been a lot more comfortable that it was. We were 2-0 up after 25 minutes then we started to overplay a little bit and let them back into it,” said Kirkpatrick.

“We had some harsh words at half-time and fair play to the lads, in the second half we were excellent.

“It didn’t take long to get a couple of goals in front again and from there, we comfortably saw it out.

“But fair play to Clevedon. They are a young side and they never stopped working all afternoon but we just maybe had that little bit more experience and nous in the final third.”

  • CORSHAM Town ended a three-match winless run in all competitions with a 3-1 victory away at Bishop Sutton in the Toolstation League First Division.

Dan Harvey put Corsham ahead in the first minute of the match and although Sutton looked to have snatched a point with a late equaliser, there was still time for Justin Flowers’ side to raise the tempo again as further goals from Josh Bright and Dan King secured the points.

Warminster Town were thumped 6-1 at county rivals Devizes Town, with Charlie Walton getting the visitors’ goal before being sent off in the second half.
