MELKSHAM Town Reserves surrendered top spot in the Wiltshire League Premier Division table after suffering just a second defeat of the season, with both Shrewton United and Wroughton capitalising to climb above them.

Town were beaten 2-0 away at Football ID and Shrewton have now moved to the summit after a thumping 9-0 success at home to bottom side Malmesbury Victoria Development.

Charlie Utterson and Alistair Carvel got two goals each for the new leaders, while Tyler Pavey, Jesse Walters, Craig Lewis and Dan Burton were also on target, with Shrewton’s emphatic haul completed by an own goal.

Kyle Pogue-Elms and Ethan Gilson-Clarke were the Football ID players on target against Melksham.

Wroughton are level on points with Shrewton after a hard-fought 2-1 win at Cricklade Town, who began the day in the top four.

Shane Hibbert broke the deadlock for Wroughton early on and missed the chance to double the lead in the opening exchanges of the second half when he saw a penalty saved by Cricklade keeper Eddie Salisbury.

However, Kyle Parker was able to put the home side two goals to the good and although Devan Bryan gave Cricklade hope by reducing the arrears, Wroughton held on for the win.

A solitary strike from Chris Deane saw Marlborough Town climb out of the bottom three after their second win of the season – a 1-0 success at home to fellow strugglers Devizes Town Reserves.

That has pushed Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development into the lower echelons of the table after they were beaten 3-0 at Westbury United Reserves.

Rhys Talmarsh got two goals and George Bendle was also on target.

Defending league champions Kintbury Rangers saw their five-match winning run ended in a 2-1 defeat at Corsham Town Reserves.

Liam Ralph netted both of Corsham’s goals as Fabio Pinto replied.

Finally, Josh Hard fired Trowbridge Town to a 1-0 victory at Purton.
