TROWBRIDGE claimed their second win of the season in South West One East thanks to a flying first half at Stratford Upon Avon at the weekend.

Dan Jeffries’ side were 24-10 winners in Warwickshire, with all of the visitors’ points coming in the first half.

Lewis Jordan, Andrew Twinney and Lee Fairclough all touched down for Trowbridge, while Tom Weaver kicked seven points with the boot.

Although his troops began to stutter in the second half, with Stratford running in two tries of their own at the end, head coach Jeffries felt Trowbridge were more than worthy winners and was thrilled to add to their previous solitary success this term, at home to Oxford Harlequins on September 29.

Head coach Jeffries said: “We have been trying to get that winning habit back. Every time we have been ahead in games, we have looked a bit worried about it, so it was good finish it off on Saturday nice and early.

“In the first half, we probably played some of the best rugby we have played all season. We were dominant from the start.

“We went into half-time 24-0 up but we lost a bit of momentum for the second half and they came out fighting quite hard.

“They didn’t really look like causing us too many problems until they got two consolation tries late on. Whereas for us, everything we tried didn’t quite get over the line.

“It would have been nice to have the bonus point too, but we’re really happy with the win.

“We have had quite a tough start to the year and been unfortunate in a few games, but I think we have proven we are a South West One side. Now we just need consistency over 80 minutes.”

Although Trowbridge remain 11th in the table, they are now level on points with Wiltshire rivals Chippenham.

  • BRADFORD on Avon went pointless for the second weekend running as they lost 71-0 at Grove to remain at the foot of the table without a win to their name.

There was also bad news for Corsham as they were beaten 20-8 on their trip to Frome.
