CHIPPENHAM Town chief Mark Collier was not too disappointed at having to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at Oxford City on Tuesday night.

Nat Jarvis’ goal early in the second half got the Bluebirds in front in this National League South tie, but Frankie Musonda restored parity with 15 minutes to play.

Chippenham then had to put in a solid rear-guard effort in the closing stages as they were forced to finish the game with 10 men when Jon Beeden limped off after all three substitutes had been made.

Given the circumstances at Marsh Lane, Collier was satisfied to make the trip back to Wiltshire with a point to show for his side’s efforts.

“When it is a tight game, it can go either way,” said Collier.

“Oxford had lots of possession in the first half and Brad House made two outstanding saves to keep us in the game.

“The game always changes in the second half and we managed to get a foothold in the game. Once we got the lead, we could have gone on and got a second goal, which I think would have killed the game.

“We didn’t manage to do that and Oxford got a bit of a fortuitous equaliser, and then having made three subs, we got an injury with five minutes to go and were down to 10 men. At that point we were all thinking that we would be quite happy to get a point.

“Overall, I am happy that we have got an away point. All points are hard to come by when you’re away from home so we’re pleased to get another one and it is onwards and upwards.”

Chippenham host third-in-the-table Woking this weekend and Collier is expecting a stiff test against a Cards side looking to win a place back in the National League at the first attempt following last season’s relegation.

“Woking are a massive non-league club and they are probably punching below their weight in this division,” said Collier.

“They were only just relegated from the Conference and have some top players.

“We will start as underdogs but underdogs win football matches and we are looking forward to it.”
