MINETY defeated county rivals Warminster 32-7 to qualify for the final of the Dorset & Wilts Senior Vase, a competition they last won in 2015.

After soaking up early Warminster pressure, the home side started to dominate and they took the lead after 10 minutes when Garin Garland stroked home a penalty.

Garland then doubled the lead with another penalty and straight from the restart, Del Murray burst brilliantly through the Warminster defence to set up a try out wide for Tom McAllister. Garland’s subsequent conversion put Minety 13-0 up.

Opportunities to increase the lead were squandered before Minety did eventually register their second two minutes before half-time. A dominant scrum pushed the visitors back and allowed Garland to pick up and darting over the line for a try he converted himself to make it 20-0.

Ben Collins got the ball rolling for Minety in the second half with their third try but Warminster just after the hour mark when Sam Couch broke through several tackles before offloading to Dan Harris to crash over, with Jimmy Rees adding the extras.

The home side had the final say, though, and a period of sustained pressure on the Warminster line resulted in Andrew Hibbard picking up and driving over, with Garland’s conversion wrapping up the win.
